Kommt man nach Passau, ist Österreich auch schon fast da! Egal, wohin der große Pfeil auf dem Verkehrsschild zeigt – alle Wege führen in unser schönes Nachbarland! Und das Handynetz hatte sich eh schon fürs Nachbarland entschieden…

In Passau fließen die schöne, blaue Donau, der türkisfarbene Inn und die dunkelblaue Ilz zusammen und als Donau weiter nach Österreich, Ungarn und Bulgarien bis zur Mündung ins Schwarze Meer in Rumänien.
Während der Schneeschmelze im Frühsommer hat der Inn eine höhere Fließgeschwindigkeit, was zu einem Rückstau der Donau führt und im -> HOCHWASSER enden kann.

Von Milchgasse über Jesuiten, Schuster, Zinngießer, Markt, Fischmarkt undPfaffen bis hin zur Höllgasse, die Altstadt ist sehenswert. Höll kommt übrigens nicht aus der Hölle sondern von „hell“. Bei der Namensgebung hat wohl ein Oberpfälzer seine Finger im Spiel gehabt…

Allgegenwärtig. Markierungen erinnern an die Höchststände und auch Nutzung der Häuser ist angepasst –Wohnen oben im Trockenen, Verkaufen und Parken unten im Nassen 😉 !
Der Inn hat sich von seiner besten Seite gezeigt und ist erst über die Ufer getreten, als wir wieder im Norden waren…

Trondheim Winter Weekend (Feb 15th – 19th, 2012) – The northern adventure

NORWAY – what do I know about Norway? What do YOU know about Norway?

2 weeks ago, the answer was very short: fjords, mountains, expensive. Ask me now and I will probably never stop raving about that amazing country and the people I met there – so bring some time 😉

The journey began in Oslo, the capital of Norway. I spent an amazing Valentine´s Day sightseeing with gorgeous Veronika. Later on, we met Nikola and Lana and took the night bus to Trondheim.
Dear Norwegians, I need your help here: How is it possible to speed on extremely snowy and curvy roads like those busses do? Seriously, I am still amazed by that.

Anyway, we made it to Trondheim in the very early morning and were picked up by our dear hosts, went “home” and yes… slept till the afternoon :). Refreshed, we visited the University of Trondheim (Norges Teknisk-Naturvitenskapelige Universitet, NTNU) and got to know about the history of the second largest of Norway´s universities with its 20 000 students.

You may have wondered already who “WE” actually is, so here´s the list of those fantastic people: Benedikt (EGEA Wien) and Daniel (EGEA Tübingen) and their host André (EGEA Trondheim), Lana and Nikola (EGEA Beograd) and their host Anton (EGEA Trondheim), Rick (EGEA Nijmegen) and Tom (EGEA Leuven) and their host Asgeir (EGEA Trondheim), Veronika (EGEA Kyiv) and her host Ingrid (EGEA Trondheim), and Caro (EGEA Erlangen) and her host Jirka (EGEA Trondheim).

In the evening we met again to get to know each other better and played some games – and found out that everyone has another name for the same games plus it seems like there is a huge gap between the north and the south… at least of German speaking countries.

And finally, the day has come we all were looking forward to –Thursday, the day of the legen…dary GeoGalla. We started in the morning with a city tour where our skills of walking on icy streets were tested. And yes, we all managed! Our guide Jirka provided us with some interesting information about Nidaros, which is the old name for Trondheim. What an amazing city, even though it was raining!

In order to experience some real winter, we went out of the city into the mountains. Our “snow-fun-guide” Kristoffer introduced us to the Norwegian way of sledging, BBQ-ing, having a sauna and sharing the “water of live” – Aqua vita or Akevitt, as it is called in Norwegian.

Nicely dressed again, we had a delicious dinner followed by speeches and awards, dancing and live music, dancing and some more dancing, the last time without high heels then ;).

GeoGalla 2012

Some of us went to bed, some to sauna, some discovered alternative pastimes but in the end we all arrived safe and sound back at our hosts the next day for a longlongloooong nap. Somewhat more energized we went to the former German submarine base DORA in the evening, which is nowadays used as a city and state archive, a bowling alley and a place for bouldering. We took the wrong entrance and went for disco bowling :).

Imagine, the best bowler of Serbia, Lana, was with us. A fantastic girl and despite all her success still down to earth ;).We learned a lot! But as we all were so tired, we went to bed before midnight.

Saturday turned out to be a scientific day. We took the bus to Løkken verk, an old copper mine somewhat (in Norwegian standard: close to) southwest of Trondheim. Fortunately, we got a tour although the mine is actually closed on the weekends. But EGEA made it happen! The guide pointed out some geological features as well as the history of mining there. She even turned off the light – and gosh, it´s really dark in there!

In the evening, we met at Asgeir´s place for talking, listening to music, learning some important Norwegian expression you basically use and need every day. If you want to know more about that – just ask me!

This was also already the evening to say “Good Bye” as some left quite early the next morning.
Wrapping it up, I learned a lot about Norway and the people living there. If you haven´t been there by now, go and visit that amazingly beautiful country, the city of Trondheim and of course the great people of EGEA Trondheim. But watch out – you might not want to leave any more.

Rücktausch mit EGEA Jena (16. bis 19. Februar 2012)

Nach dem Besuch der Studierenden aus Jena im Dezember 2011 in Erlangen und Nürnberg war unser Besuch Ende Februar 2012 nun der zweite Teil des EGEA Erlangen – EGEA Jena Austauschs.
Das Programm war vielfältig und ging über eine historische Stadtführung in Jena und den Besuch des Jentowers, das Erschmeckens der lokalen Essenskultur und einen Rundgang durch die Fakultät weit hinaus. Drei Highlights möchte ich nochmal besonders hervorheben: unsere Wanderung zur Leuchtenburg, der Stadtrundgang in Kahla und die Besichtigung des Gedenkstätte Buchenwald.

Am ersten Tag des Austausches fand eine halbtägige Wanderung auf die Burg Leuchtenburg bei Kahla statt. Bei dieser Wanderung, welche bedingt durch die niedrigen Temperaturen und vereiste Trampelpfade eher einer Eiskunstlauf-Rutschpartie ähnelte, ging es vor allem um die Topographie der Region um Jena. Aus geomorphologischer Sicht liegt die Burg in einem Schichtstufenland, so wie es auch ähnlich im Fränkischen vorgefunden werden kann. Wir hatten die Möglichkeit, Schichten aus Sandstein und Muschelkalk, sowie eine Rutschung zu sehen und durch die Erklärung unserer Gastgeber die Hintergründe zu verstehen.

Burg Leuchtenburg bei Kahla

Noch am selben Tag besuchten wir auch Jenas Vorstädtchen Kahla. Die Stadt ist durch ihre kleinen, verwinkelten Gassen und Treppengänge an sich eine durchaus schöne Stadt, jedoch ist sie geprägt durch ein Bild des stetigen Zerfalls. Das hatten wir nicht erwartet. Durch die stetige Abwanderung verfällt die durch Gründerzeitbauten geprägte Stadt. Nur vereinzelt wurden Plätze und Bauten restauriert. Zudem haben sich uns die vielen rassistischen Aufkle-ber und Graffiti, welche an Hauswänden und Laternenpfählen zu sehen waren, eingeprägt.

Kahla und Kekse

Nach der lokalen Geographie wendeten wir uns am zweiten Tag der Geschichte zu. Wir fuhren zur Gedenkstätte Buchenwald, welche nur ca. 30 min von Jena entfernt liegt. Dieser Punkt der Exkursion war eine Weiterführung des Besuchs des Dokumentationszentrums auf dem Reichsparteitagsgelände, welches wir beim Austausch im Dezember in Nürnberg be-sucht hatten. Mit Hilfe von Audioguides konnte jeder individuell die Gedenkstätte begehen. Besonders viel Zeit verbrachten wir auf dem Außengelände, wo wir unter anderem das Kre-matorium und die Grundmauern der Häftlingslager sehen konnten.

EGEA Erlangen und EGEA Jena

Beim Austausch bekamen wir in Jena also nicht nur die Chance uns geographisch weiterzubilden, sondern auch unser Wissen auf anderen Ebenen zu erweitern. Es muss natürlich gesagt werden, dass der Austausch nicht nur von den inhaltlich anspruchsvollen Exkursionen geprägt war, sondern auch durch viel Lachen, Spaß und die gemeinsame Abendgestaltung. Alles in allem war es ein wunderschönes Wochenende mit geographischem Hauch und guten Freunden.

Bavaria and Fans Meeting in Augsburg am 17.12.2011

Vor gar nicht allzu langer Zeit machten sich 5 tapfere Geographiestudenten aus Erlangen auf gen Süden, um das Städtchen Augsburg im Alpenvorland zu erkunden.
Nachdem wir das Leben in vollen Zügen genießen durften (Fugger-Express sei Dank 😉 ), und alle Mützen fertig gestrickt und gehäkelt waren, erreichten wir die Augsburger Uni. Auch EGEA Passau, EGEA Salzburg, EGEA München, EGEA Tübingen, EGEA Jena, EGEA Mainz und natürlich EGEA Augsburg hatten es bis hierher geschafft – und alte und neue Freunde wurden herzlich begrüßt. Insgesamt haben 25 EGEAns den Weg zum „Bavaria and Fans- Treffen“ auf sich genommen.

Verwandschaftsverhältnisse

Eine superleckere Pizza später wurde die Augsburger Uni und insbesondere das geographische Institut Augsburg mit den heimischen verglichen (Jaha! Augsburg hat ein Fachschaftszimmer!).
Am Nachmittag wurden 3 Gruppen für eine Stadtralley gebildet: „EGEA“, „Weihnachten“ und „Bayern“. Wie die Augsburger nur auf die Gruppennamen gekommen sind?
Ausgestattet mit einem, halt nein, sogar 2 Stadtplänen durften wir die Augsburger Puppenkiste, den Elias Holl, einen Herkules mit Lichtschwert, viele Kräuter und 12 Brücken kennenlernen. Und haben es schließlich zum Belohnungsglühwein geschafft!

Dann gings noch einmal hoch hinaus – zusammen sind wir die 260 Stufen des Perlachturms (der Elias Holl hatte auch hier auch hier seine Finger im Spiel) hinaufgespurtet und haben uns Augsburg bei Nacht aus knapp 70 m Höhe angschaut. Von oben haben wir ein wahres Lichtermeer aus Weihnachtsbeleuchtung gesehen.

Wieder unter angekommen, konnten wir 24 Englein beim Engelsspiel sehen, um dann weiter die regionale Brau- und Kochkunst zu testen.
Manche haben danach den Heimweg ins ferne Franken, Oberbayern oder Niederbayern angetreten, manche konnten sich noch nicht von Augsburg trennen und blieben über Nacht bei den besten Hosts, die Augsburg zu bieten hat.
